Title: 2 Questions Guys :)
Post by: Fly 1 on November 21, 2019, 07:31:41 AM
Hi there
I have recently upgraded to a Helix G3 Mega SI

1. How does side scan perform in muddy water?
My annual trip to our tropical north each year entails mostly fishing the rivers and mouths/flats out the front of the rivers (2-4 ft water)
as soon as the tide changes visibility is nil
FWIW main target is permit smf golden trevally

2. Just fitted the Humminbird the other day and was advised that the very long transducer really needs a spray guard
Is this really necessary? Or just sales talk?

The MEGA frequency (1200kHz) can be affected by water particulate  ... It is most noticeable in the water column  ...

800kHz and 455kHz (or their CHIRP ranges) are not as affected  ...
-----

The need for a spray guard will be best determined by testing  ... If the spray is too bad for your liking - you may want to consider it  ...

Much appreciated Rickie
Might fit the spray guard just to be sure, I guess it won't hurt
