Title: Onix vs 998 HD SI Transducer questions
Post by: BenCour on January 04, 2015, 02:08:09 PM
Hello everyone,

I currently have installed on my Lund Tyee a 998 HD SI with 2 SI transducer (xhs-9-hdsi-180t) and 1 High speed tranducer (XNT-9-20-T).
I'm currently planning an upgrade to an ONIX 10 SI but I have a few questions about this.

If I were to purchase the Y cable (AS 14 SI DB Y) with the adapter AD 1429 and use my current XNT-9-20-T would I have any drawbacks compare to using a XNT 14 20 T ?

Now same question but for SI, Can I purchase the Y cable (AS 14SILRY) with the adapter AD 1429 and use one of my (xhs-9-hdsi-180t) as a second SI transducer ?
Would I be able to mix the Onix  (XT 14 20 HDSI T) with a (xhs-9-hdsi-180t) ?  Would I have any drawbacks compare to using another (XT 14 20 HDSI T) ?
Finally, is it left or right that is being used for Down Imaging ?  I assumed that I would need to install the Onix  (XT 14 20 HDSI T) on the side which is being used to get DI.

Thanks in advance for your precious help !

Ben

Not a lot of guys on here who have the Onix ..... I am sure Greg will be able to answer your questions when he checks in.

I think the splitter cable works like the 98 series does.

The information on this thread should help with some of your questions...  http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=7568.msg45607#msg45607 (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=7568.msg45607#msg45607)

Thanks a lot Bob,

I found most of my information.  It seems that I can actually use my "Old" transducers on my new Onix using those AD 1429 adapters.  The Onix transducer need to be installed on the right to get DI.

The only information I'm missing now is if there will be any drawbacks if I use those "Old" transducers vs the newer ones.  I will wait for Greg to comment on this.

I think Doug V is using his previous installed XP 9 20 T shoot thru with good results ...

I don’t think that you will have any problem Ben as long as you get the adapters to connect up to the ONIX type connectors.  Your information on the AS-14-Si-LR-Y cable is correct as well.

I was thinking about doing this but the AD 1429 adapter said (This adapter does not support any Down Imaging functions.) I bought the Onix with out DI and SI
I have a 998 c di and si. and two transducers that go with it. moving the 998 transducer to the minkota trolling motor

You are correct that the AD 1429 does not support DI ...

This is because the intended use is to adapt the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T to work on the Onix ... and the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T does not have a "down pointing" DI piezo ...

Guys, could you please make things clear - is it possible to use two XHS 9 HDSI 180 T transducers connected to the ONIX with AS SI LR Y cable? No DI needed - just SI!

Yes this will work ... But

You would still need the AD 1429 to adapt the 9 pin AS SILR Y cable to the 14 pin Onix connection ...

And you should disable the DI pinging in the Onix menu setting to keep the DI transmitter from firing ...
