Title: 998c SI update questions and registration issues.

I just purchased a 998c SI for my boat last month. I heard about the update so I went to the website to download the update. However, I thought I registered my unit but when I go to log in it prompts me for my serial number. When I put the serial number in, it tells me to contact customer service. Therefore, I cannot get into my account. Now that you know the back ground, I have a friend of has a 798c SI unit. He downloaded the update and applied it to his unit. Can I use his SD card and apply the update to my unit? The units have the same softward just different screen sizes? Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any comments/suggestions?

When registering the unit with your serial number, you need to add numbers and dashes. Happen to me and my mate just the other day, punched in the SN number and left out a dash, got the same error message, added dash, no drama's

I tried to add dashes and even parentheses, but it still didn't work.

The updates are model specific. I wouldn't try to use the 798 update on your 998. You could always try to call in your registration...

The registration program does have some issues. It works most of the time.  Make sure you have entered the correct number.  Call customer support and have them assist in getting the information in the computer.

Even if the software update version number lists the same for the 798 and 998,
as LockDown said, the updates are per model number.

Greg may know if you could use the 798 update on the 998.

No you cannot ITG.  The updates are model specific with each having its own software update file.


Call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks to help get your unit properly registered.
In the meantime; check the software version that is on your 998c Si unit now.  The current software version is 6.490

The download file size restriction has not been changed for this web site or the 6.490 version software would be available in the Downloads section as well.
