My 998C SI has a (right)Side Imaging problem where it is pixelated. When I installed the unit it worked perfect like three or four years ago. But this season it is giving me this pixelated problem. I can't see anything down the right side of my boat. If I want to see what's below me I have to take it on the left side so I can see it on the screen. the transducer has a clear line of sight out to the left and right. I played with every setting possible, checked the default setting and I even bought a new transducer and the problem still occurs. Also I only have this problem when I am using it; when its in demonstration mode the right Side Imaging view is crystal clear just like before, which makes me think it is a software issue. Here are some pictures of the problem.

This looks like a SI transmitter issue...
You said you've tried another xducer with the same results...
Testing another SI unit on your boat ...or testing your unit on someone else's boat would help determine if the issue is in your head unit...
If you don't have access to another SI unit ... You may need to send the head unit (and xducer) in for repair...

thanks rickie, The lady on the phone said I should take my unit and put it on someone else's boat to see if the issue persists. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a 800 or 900 series unit around me. I am going to send it in to the company tomorrow. I wrote them a long letter explaining the problem with pictures included. Whenever they send it back to me I will let you know what they said was the problem.

You should send the xducer in also ...so HB has all of your hardware to try to replicate the issue...

Did you send your unit back to Humminbird yet? What was the outcome?
If that old 300TX is using a Tri-Beam transducer you could try swapping units around to see if the right side sonar works on both units or not.

I sent the unit in last week and they received it Friday, so they probably just started looking at it Monday of this week. So I won't know the outcome yet. The old 300tx transducer won't work with the new 998C SI because of the software. I don't know if it has the tribeam transducer on it. If I hooked up the wires from the 300tx to the 998 it wouldn't cause any problems or errors would it? I would just be taking the power and transducer cable out of the 300tx holding unit/bracket/connector thing and plug those straight into the 998? correct? But I don't think that would give me the side imaging views because of the different style transducers. I think it would give me the old 2D down imaging view, not the new high def down imaging view with the picture like bottom.

The 300TX units were packaged with the Tri-Beam transducers. So unless you made a change that is what should be connected to it. The Tri-Beam transducer was the forerunner of the QuadraBeam transducer and it has three piezo elements inside of it. These will connect up to the 2D, left and right beams of the 998 unit and while they should produce a testable image for the 998 unit, it will not be as detailed as the 998’s HDSi transducer is - but it will work for testing whether the problem is in the unit or the transducer. No problems though since on re-reading I see that you stated that you already tried a new transducer. The Techs next door should get your 998 back in shape and back out to you ASAP.

well they sent me an e-mail saying they had fixed it and that it was in the mail. It said in the e-mail that they soldered something. it just says "technician action - solder" it doesn't say where, and I will let everyone who reads this post use there own imagination as to what solder means for fixing the problem. I don't advise anyone to try an solder anything inside the unit or even open the unit at all to look inside. Not advised.
So when i get the unit back in my hands and on the water I will let everyone know if the problem has been fixed.
I am a huge humminbird fan, there customer service is crazy good. a quick phone call, get your confirmation number and send it in. Its amazing how fast they send it back. They received my unit on a friday and I am getting it back on thursday. thats fast considering the weekend in there.
Did I mention I am a huge humminbird fan.

sorry it took so long but I finally was able to get out on the water and see if the unit was actually fixed. And it was!!! :) don't know actually what they soldered but it works like brand new again. So happy I can fish now without anxiety of missing something.
