I have a 997c hd si transom mounted. I want to purchase a unit for my trolling motor. It seems the only difference between a 596c hd di and a 778ci hd di are the two card slots on the 778 and $250.00. I don't need the slots for mapping purposes because of the 997. Will I be able to update the 596c hd di if problems are discovered or goodies are added, or do I have to purchase the 778ci hd di to update? I just want to be able to compare the 2d sonar and down image on the trolling motor unit and don't really want to pay for all of the mapping capabilities of the 778 unit. Thanks for any help. ???

The last that I heard is that only the 700 series and above units will be getting software updates, just like it has been for several years now. Software updates may be available for some of the 500 series units but it will be at a cost and you would have to send the unit in to the Service department. At least that is what we are doing now.
