Can I use an external GPS with the 1199?  If so do I have to do anything or disable the internal GPS?

Yes you can.  All you need to do is connect it, then specify it in the accessories menu.

The 1199 should automatically detect the external GPS antenna ...

Make the GPS diagnostic view visible under the Views tab, Exit out of the menu system and cycle thru the Views until the GPS diagnostic view is displayed ...

The GPS antenna being used will be listed at the bottom of this view ...
