Title: Issue with 1197 using two transducer for SI
Post by: knorstu on July 03, 2016, 05:18:27 PM
Hi,

Just purchased a Y cable to run two transducers. Setup the wiring. Found one transducer pinging but nothing out of the other. Should note the dead transducer was my main transducer when I was only running one so I'm sure it works.

Any thoughts to the issue? Thanks!

Which Y cable are you using ...??

*The AS SIDB Y cable connects a SI xducer and a Dual Beam xducer ...
*The AS SILR Y cable connect 2 SI xducers ...

Are you just listening to the transducer or did you test for a signal on the water?

I tried this once before and had issues.

I'm doing it by feel. Going on vacation soon so not much time to try on the water.

It's possible the difference is that only one of the transducers is going to be pinging the 2D element.....The other one just SI, and you may not be able to feel that ping......never tried in that configuration.

I wonder if only one pinged in order to not confuse each other. However, I would think the ping would be blocked by the motor lower unit which is the reason for trying this configuration.

It will ping 1 SI element on both transducers, but only one transducer will be pinging the 2D sonar.

Try plugging the "suspect"' xducer directly into the unit to see if the xducer is functioning properly ...

If it is working ...Then the issue is with the Y cable ...
----

You can also plug the known working SI xducer into the "suspect" side of the Y cable to test that side of the Y cable ...

Well now that my vacation is over, I had time to try the Y cable on a local lake. Seems to work just fine. I guess there is no way to tell if the SI is working in the garage. I can hear the down pings but not SI.

You are hearing/feeling  the 2d sonar you can't here the si ping.

That's the same conclusion I came too.
