Trouble Viewing Routes on HB PC
« on: August 16, 2015, 07:25:07 PM »
I have made my first attempt at recording a route, exporting to SD MMC and can't see anything when tryin to view it on HB PC. I get 2 GPX files but everyone of the drop downs seem to be empty. I can playback on the Helix but not on the computer. Tips? Rickie?

I'm a little confused here long hair ...

A "Route" is a pre-planned group of waypoints to be followed at a future date ...

What were you actually trying to record ...??

Actually, I recorded the route I took from the mouth of the creek back to the boat dock.

A few questions then ...

1. Did you have an unlocked SD Card in the unit during recording ... ??

2. Did you start the recording from the "Snapshot and Recording" view ...??

3. Did you manually stop the the recording ...??

4. Did "Recording" popup at the top of the display occasionally ...??

5. Is there a "RECORD" folder on the SD Card when you open the card on your PC ... ??

6. Are there any contents inside this "RECORD" folder on the SD Card ... ??

Yes to all. The files inside 'Record" have folders, R0001 and R0002 and 2 DAT files. The folders contain 2 HB PC files which have IDX files and everything inside them are blank, Routes Waypoints and Tracks. SON files of course, do not open.

HBPC is not a sonar recording viewer ...

HBPC is a Nav data management program (waypoints, routes, and tracks) ...

It sounds like you have the correct folders and files to have successfully created a HB recording on the SD Card ...

You have a few options for viewing the HB sonar recording ...

*View the recording on the unit itself by having the SD Card in the unit and getting the "Snapshot and Recording" view opened where you can playback the recording in the unit ...

*Humviewer ...which is a 3rd party HB sonar recording viewer ...

I think ReefMaster has a recording viewer also but I have no experience with it ...

I can help with Humviewer if you have questions ...

I downloaded Humviewer and tried to open the links. I got error messages on every file sayin, Not a HB file. I reformatted my MSD card and recorded a new track today but have not tried it out yet. I just got home a bit ago.
What I had about the first recording. HB PC didn't even show any info about the files. Everything was blank.
The User Manual for the unit sucks. I either have to print out 168 pages of try to remember the info. Humminbird should send manuals with the unit or at least offer them for sale. I can't carry around 168 pages of computer printed stuff that is gonna melt went water hits it.

I would first suggest transferring the "RECORD" from the SD Card to your PC ...

Then launch the Humviewer program and perform the following ...:

*Click “Open” in the top left of the screen….the HV file transfer wizard should popup ...
*Navigate to the “RECORD" folder that you transferred from the SD card….
*Open the "RECORD" folder...
*There will be a .DAT file and a "R" prefix folder for each recording you made ...
*Select the file that ends in .DAT...this file should enter into the "File Name" at the bottom of the HV open wizard...
*Select the "Open" button at the bottom...
*The recording file should load into Humviewer…(sometimes this takes a few minutes depending on how long a recording you made)….

I agree printing the manual is not efficient ...

I use Documents Pro on my iPhone to hold all the HB unit manuals ...all the manuals can be downloaded from the HB website ...

HBPC would only recognize NAV data on the SD Card ...waypoints, routes, tracks ...

This Nav data must be physically "Exported" to the SD Card from the waypoint management menu under the Navigation tab in the unit Main Menu System ...
