Title: Helix 7 depth readings and rooster tail
Post by: ga284 on March 20, 2016, 08:28:08 PM
Having problems with my helix 7. The depth seems to read correctly most of the time. When setting the boat down off pad I get false  readings like 100 ft. or 380 ft. What would cause this. I am also getting a rooster tail from the transducer.
Thanks

There is aerated water flowing off your transom as the boat comes down off plane ...

Sonar will not read thru bubbles ...causing the unit to lose bottom until clean bubble free water again covers the xducer face where the unit can regain definite bottom detection ...

There should have been a square-ish rubber plug included in the box that inserts in the gap between the xducer and its mounting bracket ...the plug is to help with the rooster tail ...

What can be done to resolve the false readings ?

Turbulence from your boat hull as you set down off plane is definitely difficult to keep steady depth readings ...

If your boat is fiberglass ...you can install the XP 9 20 In the bilge as a shoot thru along with the AS SIDB Y cable ...

Will the y cable work with the down image model ?

Will the y cable work with the down image model ?

Yes ...provided the 2d xducer used with AS SIDB Y cable has the correct 2d frequencies that the DI unit is capable of transmitting ...

There seems to be some conflicting information about the use of the AS SIDB Y cable with the HB DI units ...

So I went to the source that everyone concurs with ...

Here is my correspondence with Deb (Deb is in blue) ...

Hey Deb ... There have been some discussions on the forums about the possibility of using the AS SIDB Y cable with a HB DI unit along with a secondary Dual Beam xducer of the appropriate 2d dual frequency ...

Some have posted actually talking with HB representatives that claim the AS SIDB Y cable will only work with the HB SI units ... and could even damage the DI unit from extending use with the AS SIDB Y cable ...

It is obvious from the HB pinout diagrams that the #1 pin channel for the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T (and XTM 9 SI 180 T) "Right SI channel" is the very same #1 pin channel for the XNT 9 DI T (and XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ) "DI channel" ...

Therefore the #1 pin channel thru the AS SIDB Y cable should (in theory) effectively transfer data from the HB DI unit "DI transmitter" to the HB DI unit "DI piezo" ... (It is just a wire with no impedance filter, I assume) ...

Can you shed light on why using the AS SIDB Y cable with a HB DI unit and a secondary Dual Beam xducer (of the appropriate 2d frequencies) is not recommended by some HB representatives ...??

Thanks Rickie

You can use the DI transducer and a dual beam transducer (not a US2 transducer) with the AS SIDB Y without any issues as long as you have the DI transducer on the SI transducer side.
