Making Cable to fit laptop to 898
« on: August 16, 2011, 05:48:22 AM »
I thought I read somewhere a step by step to splice two cables together to make it possible to connect a Laptop to a Sounder (my 898cxsi)

Does any know where I can find this ???? or is it possible to mount a remote screen such as a small 7" monitor or laptop to my 898 ???

Thanks in Advance.

Angry,
I went thru this a few months ago. Tried an auto dvd player and a 19 inch HiDef flat screen TV.
I too was looking for a larger image.
I got it, BUT it was at the same resolution that the 898 has. So what I got was a very large very grainy image like on the 898. BUT like I said, grainy very grainy I considered it a valuable lesson. Want a bigger image? get a bigger unit. Maybe the new 798's will give a better output with their higher resolution, haven't tried that yet.

Good luck on your quest and keep us posted.

First thing I learned about computers... GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out).
Not sayin anything about the units is garbage, just that your output isn't going to be better than your input.  Truly, the best image I have seen from my units has been playing recordings back thru DeepView 3.
Gee that broke easy.

The data that is being transfered or recorded is much higher resolution than what is being dispayed on the screen.  Thats why the 3rd party software that playback on the computer give a better image than whats on the unit itself.  The data being sent via the ethernet is this same data.

Hi Angry

You can use HB VC 1 cable for video out and a videograbber for your computer, but i hope it is a software feature in the near term for this is based on Ethernet.

"Down Under" here in Australia, I paid $2100 for an 898cxsi, & that was a Boat show deal, normal retial is....$2600AU

So the option of a bigger screen will be a 998 or an 1198 ?, given that the 998 is only an inch wider thats not going to fly, so at $3999 thats just way too much $$$

The prices down here are crazy & if I buy a US model noone s going to honor warranty & its going to be imperial measurements, I do run my 898 in Feet for depth but Kilometers for speed & Celsius for temps.

Any other suggestions ?? I was thinking about a 8" or 10" moniter or like I said to my Laptop.

Wheres the best place to buy one of these HB VC1 cables ???

Thanks in Advance

Humminbird sells them directly, but I don't know if they will ship to Australia.  I would check some fo the online retailers.

Good Luck,

Angry,
You could try BLA the Humminbird agent here in Oz for that cable. They did have it  6 months back. Link below to BLA
