Topic: Transducer directionality (if that's the right word)

I'm mounting an XHS-9-HDSI-180-T transducer on a T&H holeshot plate using a Transducer Shield & Saver TM-HDsi transducer shield with a WG-2-5 Wedge. To get the best fit and t-ducer cable run the transducer would be mounted with the temperature sensor facing to the rear, rather than forward at the boat.
The question is: does it make any difference in which direction the transducer is pointing  when mounted on the holeshot plate? Thanks for any guidance.

It probably will make a difference so that the display know which way the boat is going.  The temp sensor will not care direction only that it is in the water.

The transducer will have to be mounted so the temp sensor is facing to the rear.  If you turn the transducer around, the display would be showing the left on the right and the right on the left.

Since our unit is portable and we have used on different boats where we (the sonar operator) is facing the stern (rear) that is what we do with the transducer. Keeps things in perspective and aligned.

This is a challenging problem, how should the transducer and the display be oriented when the operator is facing the rear? If I got it right, you can turn the transducer around so things to one side of the boat will appear at the same side on the display. But, in that case the operator will have to pretend he is looking at the bottom from a position BELOW the bottom, or....? I think you get the best match between reality and image (as it is experienced by the operator) if the transducer is in the normal position and the unit is turned upside-down. The readability of text and figures is sacrificed, of course. Has anyone tested this? Have I got this completely wrong??

I do not recommend turning the transducer around at all! 

If you are recording or marking waypoints, your gps data will be all screwed up!  Think about it, whats supposed to be on the left is now on the right, and vice versa.  If you mark a waypoint on the left, the unit is using the gps and heading info to calculate the point, but the point is actually 180 deg on the other side.
