NMEA
« on: December 19, 2013, 09:29:47 AM »
I have a new 998c SI still in the box waiting for my boat build completion.  I will be getting a Yamaha 115 HP 4 stroke.  I would like to hook up NMEA so I can see engine readings on my 998.  What do I need besides a NMEA2K Adapter to do this?  The HB website says something about a NNEA2000 backbone.  Does the engine have this or do I need other parts and where might I find these?

Thanks for any help.

All I can tell you is from the Humminbird end of things.  You will need the AS-ETH-NMEA2K NMEA 2000 Adapter.  I recommend you download the operations manual and review what else is needed (like the NMEA 200 backbone).

Humminbird does not sell the NMEA 2000 backbone parts.

i've done a few of these now
you will need to build an nmea backbone and power it if 1 does not already exist
you will also require a gateway or adaptor from Yamaha to get their nmea signal into the backbone

I would think that you would need the same (AS-ETH-NMEA2K NMEA 2000 Adapter, NMEA 2000 backbone and a connection/adapter cable from Suzuki to connect it to the NMEA 2000 backbone).

Checked with my dealer and I would need to have the Yamaha Command Link package upgrade plus the HBird part and another part.  Over $1000 so I guess I will pass on this for now.
