Re: New SI trandcuer for 1197
« on: February 26, 2011, 03:42:28 PM »
I just go on the water for the first time this year. My SI transduer mounted on my trolling motor shows significant noise in the image (screen) when the trolling motor is running. I can't believe this is normal. The side imaging and down imaging go virtually white with noise and the regular 2D sonar in not affected too bad, but some noise also. Can any help me understand if this is normal or is there something wrong with my transducer. Both the trolling motor (Minn Kota Fortrex) and 1197SQ unit are brand new.

What you are seeing is RF interference from your trolling motor.  It is quite normal for today’s trolling motors to produce RF energy due to their PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) circuitry that they use to control the speed of the motor.

I would start by checking the internal ground wire on your trolling motor is it has the built-in universal sonar transducer (US2).

Next I would check the transducer cable for the transducer model number.  Post back all the numbers and letters that you find as these will be within the first few feet of the connector end of the cable.

Chuck it would mean whether he has an older HDSi transducer that does not have the additional copper shielding inside of it or the newer one.  If it is the older one than installing a newer one could possibly help.

[Speaking of Weather… the Tornado warning is over and it looks to be clearing up so I’m outa here!]

Yep you are sending the tornado toward us.  thanks.... ;D
Does testing take into consideration the different transducers or do they just test the latest?
Just asking in case we need to make a list for questions when the guys start asking...
