Is the 898c the non-HD version? How many transducers are you using? If you're just using the transducer that is attached to the unit with the GPS puck, then you would need the interlink module and cables. If the 898 is the HD version, then you would just need to connect the 2 units with ethernet. After everything is connected you should get some options on what you can share.

No InterLink!
Whether it is the 898c Si or 898c HD Si model, it can be Ethernet connected to the 1198c Si unit.  LocDown must be getting this mixed up with the 700 series units…

I would also ask how these units are connected to the transducer(s) and just where this/these transducer(s) is/are mounted?
How are you planning on using these two units and where are they mounted on the boat?

The cheapest way would be to install the GPS Receiver that came with each unit as close to the transducer that it will be using as is possible.  This will also give you more accurate waypoint marking and make it easier to re-find that same structure later on.

If you are just committed to using one GPS Receiver you have the option of either using a direct Ethernet connection between these two units or buying the AS-SysLink cable.

Thanks Greg, let me try to explain what I would like to do. The 898 I am going to put at the stearing area, with a transducer mounted at the rear transom area. I will have the 1198 up at the bow with a transducer mounted on the trolling motor when I am casting. Now I was thinking of times when I go to lake erie and do a lot of trolling, I was thinking of moving the 1198 to the rear and hooking it to the rear transom tranducer. So what are your ideas as far as the antena goes. If I have it mounted at the sterring area (middle of the boat) and link to the 898 (sterring area) and the 1198 either in the front or moved to the rear. Will that work OK??

Sounds like you just want the 1198 wherever you are sitting at. ..

If you have a ram mount that is the same for the bow and the console, then it wouldn't be too difficult to swap units back and forth. You would just have to change the wire connectors when swapping. You could just leave the GPS pucks at their respective locations.

danieloverly,
Is the steering area where the 898 unit is mounted the same steering area that you will be moving the 1198 unit too?
If so than +1 to what LocDown said.

I would run an Ethernet cable between the units when the 1198 gets mounted at the steering area.  This would allow the 1198 to use the same GPS Receiver and transducer as the 898 unit while mounted there.  All you would need is a second RAM mount base, a PC-11 power cable, a Cable Collector (540178-1) and the appropriate length Ethernet Cable (AS-EC-XXE, where “XX” is the cable length.  Available in 2,  10,  15,  20 and 30 foot lengths) to make the connection and power it up.
