998c si and 798ci HD si with 3 transducers
« on: March 23, 2013, 04:52:03 PM »
Ok guys I've linked it all together... Heres what I got... I have a 798ci HD si (software vers. 6.610) on my bow hooked to my terrova US2 transducer. It is ethernet connected to my 998c si (software vers. 6.600) on my console. which is connected to two transducers (using a AS SIDB Y) a... XHS 9 HDSI 180 T and a... XNT 9 20 T. Hers the problem...
  1) the only two options I have on the 798 for transducer select  is compact si and quad beam. (on the network tab i can view the 998 transducer) since I'm using the US2 in the terrova shouldn't i have the option of a dual beam transducer???
  2) this is more a question than a problem... on the 998 will i have to swith back and forth between the two transducer when i change views (ie.. side image, Down image, and 2d) or does the "y" cable seperate the two and does it internally????
As always thanks for the help!!!

1) It's not recommended to connect your SI unit to the US2 transducer.
2) The Y cable grabs 2 different transducer information but the unit will only see one set. The XNT920T transducer will be solely for 2d imaging and the HDSI transducer will show the SI,DI, and temperature.

1) the reason I bought the 798ci si unit was to mount on bow and use with US2 transducer. While using transom mounted si transducer through Ethernet. This was what Humminbird Greg told me I needed to do.
2) ok, on my menu what transducer do I select... High def. SI ?

This is a quote from Humminbird website on 6.610 software upgrade...." • Removed Universal Sonar II transducer selection option, now users should select dual beam as their selection."
Why would they say that if you can't use US2 transducer. Problem I having is my 798 is not giving me the dual beam option.

Why don't you try to downgrade the firmware and see if it will show up.

The problem arose in v. 6.57. You would have to go back to 6.25 to get your Universal Sonar option back.  They never put a Dual Beam option in the ducer select menu (almost all other units have it).  We'be been instructed to useQuad Beam, as it should work the same.

I talked to Jennifer at Humminbird gift and that's what she said. Use quad beam.
