Title: Helix 7 depths over 100m
Post by: MarjanK on August 14, 2018, 02:42:04 AM
I come from Slovenia, so I'm already sorry for the language. ::)

I fish in the Adriatic Sea to a depth of about 100m.
I currently have Helix 7 Chirp DI G2 with XNT 9 DI T transducer. I'm disappointed with the display at depths of more than 80m especially displaying details and fish. I'm not hunting straight tuna, I'm interested in fish weighing about 1kg or less.

Does anyone have experience on these depths with Helix 7?

I'm thinking about options:
- purchase XNT 9 DB 74 T transducer (50/200) or something similar (suggestions are desirable)
- buying Helix 9 ... but I'm not sure that the new HELIX 9 CHIRP DI GPS G2N with the same XNT 9 DI T (comes in a package) will work better at the depths of 100-120 m than my current Helix7 with same XNT 9 DI T transducer?

Suggestions, Opinions, Experiences?

... I also have a 898c with own transducer and when both are switched on there are disturbances. Even if one is on 83hz and the other on 200hz. Is this normal or is something wrong with the settings?

Thanks!

Your depths are stretching the limits of high frequency imaging technology  ... Sound attenuation (absorbed into water) is more prevalent in higher frequencies  ...

The XNT 9 DB 74 T is Dual Beam 2d only - you would lose DI capability with this xducer  ... But the lower 50kHz band would perform better at deeper depths for 2d  ...(If the HELIX 7 even has a Connected Transducer option for this xducer)  ...
------

HELIX 9 MEGA CHIRP DI comes with the XM 9 MDI T Low "Q" xducer  ... Same DI as XNT 9 DI T - but better 2d because of the Low "Q" factor in the 2d piezo  ... While it is still the CHIRP bands around the 83/200kHz  2d frequencies - it has potential in somewhat deeper water by being able to increase Sensitivity without capturing as much noise (also due to the Low "Q")  ...
-----

All HB units transmit 200kHz for digital depth regardless of Menu settings or view displayed - you are experiencing Crosstalk interference from 2 separate units transmitting 200kHz at the same time  ...

Rickie, Thanks for the answer

So what would be your suggestion:

Upgrade Helix 7 with new XNT 9 DB 74 T transducer (50/200) or something similar (suggestion)...or
Buy the new Helix 9 (with the transducer that comes in the package)

Thanks,
Marjan

I think you would get better results with the MEGA DI unit that comes stock with the XM 9 MDI T with Low "Q" xducer  ...

The processor should also be better in the 9" or larger units  ... (And larger screen)  ...

Ok, I'm also inclined to buy 9 ... but are you sure that Helih 9 comes with  transducer XM 9 MDI T?

On Humminbird's specifications it says that it is complete with XNT 9 DI T? (the same as for Helix 7)

There are 2 models of HELIX CHIRP DI G2N (in 9", 10", and 12" screen sizes)

You listed the HELIX 9 CHIRP DI GPS G2N  ... (It does indeed come with the XNT 9 DI T)  ...

Here is the HELIX 9 CHIRP MEGA DI GPS G2N  ... (It comes with the XM 9 MDI T Dual Spectrum Low "Q")  ...
