797c2Si depth issues
« on: September 12, 2011, 01:46:56 PM »
I have been reading through the posts as best I can to try to figure out my depth issue on my 797 c2si.  It is mounted at the console, Y-Cable, with the HDSI transducer on the transom and a puck in the bilge area.  It will occassionally read 1.6 or 1.7 FOW, when my 788ci at the bow is reading 14 FOW and I'm throwing a SK 6xd crankbait.

When I'm having this issue, the screen will read the incorrect depth, as well as show no depth on the down image or soanr pages.  The SI image is showing the correct depth even if the depth read 1.6 or 1.7.

So far, I've determined I need to isolate the two transducer from the Y-cable, and I may need to turn my bow fishfinder off.  I usually leave it turned on.  I"ve also seen it suggested that I can set the water type to Saltwater Deep and the surface clutter to 9.  Am I missing any other suggestions?

Is it possible to have the HDSI transducer only, and get sonar,DI, and SI images.  What would I lose if I only had the HDSI transducer?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Eric

Eric,
Think that I have responded to your same questions on another web site…

Start by turning the other sonar unit off.  If that clears it up, than try turning on and up the Noise Filter menu and turn the other unit back on.  Keep turning up the Noise Filter menu until the interference goes away.  If it does not than you can try selecting a Lower Range menu setting that differs from the automatically selected lower range setting on the other unit is using.  If that does not help than you will have to shut the sonar on the other unit off.  If shutting the other unit off does not help than try setting the Water Type menu to the Salt (deep) menu setting and adjust your Surface Clutter to a lower numerical setting.

You can get 2D, Si, and Di sonar all from the HDSi transducer.  Depending on your boat and how the HDSi is installed you may be giving up high-speed depth readings if you do not use the bilge mounted puck transducer.
