external gps install
« on: December 31, 2012, 09:55:19 AM »
The little yellow instruction card that came with my 898 was not detailed enough for me.  I need step by step instructions on how to install it.  I have an area in mind where to install it.  I need detail.  1 pick a location.  Drill a ______ hole etc.  I have no clue what to do with the little 12 inch wire coming from the plug with the end on it.

I think that wire is just an option:
If you want to have the GPS info go out to another device.

Just bolt down your gps puck and plug the connector
into the back of your unit.

Goto the HB web site and download the book for the 898.  It has all the pictures you need and hole sizes.
You may have to register your unit with them 1st.
HB does not send a manual with the units any more but the download will get you in the right directions.

The extra wires coming off the connector are for extra accessories like VHF radios or something that needs gps info.

Be sure those wires in the pigtail are not capable of the bare ends touching each other....

And keep the rubber cap on it...(if you're not going to use it for accessories the guys above mentioned...)
