Title: Maps erratically rotate while travelling in straight course
Post by: KBarr on June 28, 2013, 10:33:12 AM
First off, thanks for all the great support.  I have a 1198, 958 , i-Pilot Link and 360 Unit and I am running the latest Lake Master Cards.  Here is my problem.  When I select HEADING UP for my chart orientation, the chart rotates around erratically when I travel in a "straight" course.  I have done the Heading Offset test and the Course and Heading appear to be in sync at speeds under 10mph but the heading does bounce around allot at higher speeds.

I tried then to use COURSE UP but this does not work, no matter what direction I move, the map does not change to keep the Course Up in the display but the map is stable with no erratic rotation. (is this only for active navigation to a waypoint or route?)

I really like the ability to have my direction remain up and the map rotate as needed but this does not work.  It did work before I upgraded to the 360 and the latest Lake master Maps.  Is this related to the new GPS receiver for the 360 or something else?

Any Thoughts?

At what speed(s) is this "erratic chart rotating" happening...??

Is the "Heading Line" at the boat icon following the errant chart rotation that you speak of...??

Where do you have the AS GPS HS antenna puck mounted...??

If it is too close to the TM (or maybe even the big motor)....the magnetic compass in the puck can be affected...

Rickie,

The Puck is located in the same spot as my old one, on the rear of the boat.  Now I know the new puck for the 360 is much more sensitive but not sure if this is a factor.

The heading line stays straight (as would be expected) and the map rotates around the boat icon.  This erratic motion occurs at speeds above 10mph.

If there was motor interference, I would expect to see it occur on all the Chart Orientation modes (NORTH UP and COURSE UP) but it does not.  They are solid.

Also, For some reason Course UP dos not keep course up?

How many pucks are on the boat...??

You mention the AS GPS HS puck at the transom....

Is there another puck for the 958...??

Rickie,

Sorry for the late response.  There is only one puck for both units.
