Ethernet plug as a waterproof cover
« on: May 06, 2012, 07:18:55 PM »
I have ordered a 20' ethernet cable for my 998 that I am going to cut one end off and install a cat5 plug on it so I can connect to my laptop for use with Dr. Depth.  My question is are there any reasons that I couldn't use the cut off connector as a waterproof cover for the ethernet port on the back of the 998 by sealing the cut wires with liquid tape and shrink tubing?  That way the connector would be protected when not in use.  I just thought I would ask if anyone else has done this in the past.
Thanks
Darryl

The connector on the unit body is already waterproof, even when noting is put in them.
It will keep the debris off in you want. But I don't think is necessary.

I don't plan on using the Ethernet all the time.  I just figure that it can't hurt.
