Helix 10 SI & 9 SI Low Voltage alarms
« on: December 12, 2017, 11:37:20 PM »
I have been using both of these on my boat for over 6 months. I have 3 Interstate batteries, 2 for my 24V TM and 1 for main motor and electronics. Haven't had a bit of trouble until last time out and then had "Low Voltage" alarms on both units with the 10 finally fading out. When I got home and hooked the up charger the battery showed nearly fully charged.  Any ideas? Strange everything was fine for several months and then bad. All three batteries were new when I installed them & the 2 Helix units back in June.

It may be a good idea to have the battery load tested  ... Batteries do fail sometimes before their expected life span  ...

Most auto parts stores and even Walmarts can do this test  ...

Or even better - Battery load testers are not very expensive  ...

Will have to get a load tester today. One other thought. I used a 12V battery charger to provide power to the units while I had them in the house. I used a spare Humminbird power cable I have and was very careful to maintain correct polarity to the units. According to the specs from Humminbird the Voltage was in the acceptable range. I think it was 16 V. (My specs show between 10 - 20 V) Could that have caused a problem with the units?

Set one of your data boxes on the unit to read voltage and get an inexpensive digital meter to read the voltage at the battery.  If you have more than a few tenths of a volt difference you may have a bad connection in your wiring or where the power connector connects into the unit.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

just bought a brand new boat. New helix 9. Of coarse it has brand new batterie.   When I start the motor the draw on the battery is just enough to trigger low voltage. Not a problem.
