Bottom Image and Depth Loss
« on: February 13, 2013, 06:46:51 PM »
Just bought a new 798SI. Installed the SI transducer on the jack plate of my Skeeter boat and it works great. I Lose the SI signal when on plane but that is normal. I then installed a XP 9 20T shoot thru the hull transducer (with a AS SI DBY cable) on the step where my old HB flasher transducer was installed.  My problem is that when idling and then taking off I still have a 2D signal but as soon as the boat breaks over on plane I then lose my bottom image and depth reading.  Is this because the step is 6 inches above the actual bottom of the boat and that I need to move the 2D transducer to the very bottom of the boat?  Thanks in advance for any and all assistance/advice given.

Remember, any place that will have air or bubbles will distort or block the sonar.  Once you get up on plane it is probably out of the water or creating a lot of turbulence or swirling behind the step.  You need a spot that will have constant contact with the water and as little turbulence as possible.

Good luck,

You also need to test the inside-the-hull installation location before mixing the epoxy to stick it in place.  This will show you whether the spot you want to install it in will work or not.  Look in the installation instructions for how to do this.
