Seeing your jig under boat
« on: July 10, 2012, 12:01:49 PM »
Just got back from Wis. crappie fishing and tried to see if I could get my jig on the screen like I've seen other do.  Could not do.  :(  Don't ask me what setting I used, as I tried a bunch of different settings (switchfire on - off) to no avail.  Fished/trolled/drifted in water anywhere from 6 ft. to 30 ft.
What is the minimum depth this can be done?
Most important: What are the settings you use to make this happen?  Cone setting and etc.?
Does jig have to be exactly under the transducer?
Any info and help would be greatly appreciated as I like to drift over schools and sometimes spot lock over schools with Terrova.

Thanks in advance,  Fuzz   :)

You will get the best results with switchfire max and boost the sensitivity just a little.

The jig does need to be in the transducer beam.  I think the beam width at 83 khz is approximately 1/3 the depth....so, if you are jigging 10' deep, you would have to be within 3' of the transducer.....and even then you would be on the edge of the beam.....the closer you are jigging to your transducer the better.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

closer to your transducer the better, calm to light winds, the deeper the water the better.. .and yes, make sure it's in the sonar cone. start bumping sensitivity until you see it. You could always start with an anchor :)

I have done this may times bass fishing I have noticed you just about always be in light wind sonditions so boat does not move very much. If you are drifting very much I have found it hard to keep your bait with transducer profile. I have been able to see my bait at depths up to 40 feet. even a crappie jig can be seen at this depths.
