I am presently trying to decide what sort of sidescan to invest a few thousand in for shallow water survey work. From the pictures I have seen the imaging from the new recreational CHIRP side imaging units is as good as any of the commercial units available at any reasonable cost. What would be the maximum depth/maximum cable length that one could expect to be doable with the home-grown towfish?

Hi ropesfish

80-100m have been realized with the devices of the older generation, so would have to be possible with the devices of the latest generation.

Thanks, Rudiger,
I am contemplating a Helix 12 (410380-1)
We are mostly concerned with salvage work in diver-accessible depths so I suspect that 100m of cable will certainly suffice.
Thanks, I will post updates as available.
