Title: Transducers
Post by: grayfox on April 17, 2014, 05:03:00 PM
Does Humminbird mark their transducers some way?  I have a couple transducers I bought for 788ci unit.  I think it is a XNT 9QB 90T.  Do you tell by the number of pins on the male hookup?  If it is the XNT 9QB90T, will it work on the 798 CI HD SI unit for side imaging, which that unit has.

Thanks for any help

If you do a google search on that number there is a good selection of info

There are several that look alike, but are different in what they do.  I have one that I am not sure which it is the cheaper one, or the more expensive one.  ????????

When they come from the factory they have tags near the plug end. Other than that. You would have to try and see if it does what you need. If you call HB they might have another way to check. Bob

grayfox,
The cables are marked near the plug end.  Depending on when they were made will depend on whether it is an actual ID band or just some numbers/letters printed on the cable.  For those transducers that have no markings we can sometimes tell which they are by the housing they use and the number of pins in the connector – the pins not so much because we’ve had to substitute cables in the past.

You cannot use the XNT-9-QB-90-T QuadraBeam transducer as a Side Imaging transducer specifically.  By that I mean that you can connect it to your 798 unit and, with the Transducer Select menu set to the Compact Sidescan setting, expect it to work exactly like a Side Imaging (CSi) transducer.  The 798 unit will display sonar data in the Si Sonar View but it will not look the same as it would if it were using a Side imaging transducer.  The reason for this is that the shape of the beams in the QuadraBeam transducer are shaped differently than the Side Imaging transducer.

Now you can set the Transducer Select menu to the Quad Beam setting and the unit will have the QuadraBeam Side Beam Views and work correctly with the QuadraBeam transducer.

Hey Greg, will a XHS 9 HDSI 180 T transduceer work on a 788ci HD DI unit?

DillyDally,
I got your PM as well:
Yes the 788ci HD unit will work with the XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducer.  The 2D sonar will be the same as the standard DualBeam XNT-9-20-T transducer that is normally packaged with them.

When you get some time on the water to play a little; try setting the unit to the QuadraBeam menu setting and look at what this transducer can show you in the Side Beam View.
