Title: NEW GPS RESPONSE ENHANCEMENT
Post by: RGecy on October 21, 2009, 09:06:43 PM
NEW GPS RESPONSE ENHANCEMENT

One of the new software changes that has just been released for 2010 models currently being built (and January for older models and new 2010 models as they are released) is an enhancement that will allow the GPS receiver to update 4 times faster than it previously updated. Below is a list of the units that have the new software download available on Humminbird.com now.
718, 728, 778c, 788c, 788ci, 1157c, 1197c

All other GPS combo models will have this new feature available January 2010.

This enhancement will result in a smoother response from the boat icon on the screen when driving to waypoints and other areas of interest. There is no menu setting or adjustments that have to be made to the units to enable this new feature. It will happen automatically when the new software is loaded into the unit.

IMPORTANT!
One very important topic related to this new enhancement is that the 4 times faster GPS update will not transmit through the INTERLINK box. Therefore, the GPS receiver(s) in the boat will have to be wired in a specific manner to allow the 4 times faster GPS response to work correctly. For boats that are utilizing INTERLINK systems there are two main setups. One is where there is (1) GPS receiver servicing both units on the boat and the other one is with (2) GPS receivers (one in the back and one in the front). Attached are illustrations showing how the GPS receivers, Interlink box, cabling and Y-cables should be connected in order to enable the 4 times faster GPS.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On the setup that only utilizes (1) GPS receiver the 4 times fast and will only work on the back unit and will not work on the front unit that is connected to the INTERLINK. You MUST have (2) GPS receivers hooked up per the illustration below in order to get the 4 times faster to both units.

If you have individual GPS receivers for each unit and aren’t using Interlink then you will get the 4 times faster GPS response.

Here is a post that shows the different GPS connections and what will and will not work.  http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=447.0 (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=447.0)

Robert,

Is the "NEW GPS RESPONSE ENHANCEMENT" (4 times faster) built into the units or into the GPS antennae?  How will this compare to the AS GRHA GPS Receiver currently on the market?

George,

Its in the programming, not in the GPS puck.

All the GR16s and GR50s and GRHAs will work with this update.

Thanks Robert

If it is a programming improvement, will it be available for the older models?

As for which models specifically, Greg will have to answer that.  I have heard that most if not all of the 700, 900, and 1100 series will get this update.

I have not seen a list yet but have heard also that all 700, 900 and 1100 series models will get this.  Older (“Legacy”) models that we are no longer producing for 2010 will start coming out after the first of the year but I have no firm dates.

Just to confirm: when Robert said that it will work with all of the GR16, GR50 and GRHA GPS Receivers, this also meant the internal GPS Receivers as well.

Robert

Since updating to 4.700, my GRHA GPS accuracy has went from appx. 7 to 3 feet and the response time has been greatly improved.  HB is really making some nice improvements.
