How to determine bass on 1198?
« on: September 25, 2014, 02:43:37 PM »
Hey guys,

Can anyone share with me smallmouth, and largemouth bass screenshots from their 1198? SI, Di, or 2D images. I'm trying to target them and having a difficult time figuring out the difference between each species of fish as in yellow Perch, white bass, catch fish, pike, etc.

Thank you,
 -nick

It's impossible to determine the exact fish species just by looking at your sonar.
If you get over some fish, then catch some, then you will know what species it was.
If you really want to know for sure, then get a fish camera and lower it down.

Check out the Gallery section and look under Fish Images.  Lots of great shots of different fish.  While it is true that a good way to identify what appears on your screen is to try and catch it that is not always possible.  A better way for me is to learn stuff from others who know what they are talking about.  Catfish, carp, crappie, baitfish, bass do appear differently on the screen.  The image of the fish coupled with the type of bottom/structure where it is located is a good way to hone in on your target species.
