Title: 997 and 788 cable compatability, and drop-shot settings advice?
Post by: lester547 on December 28, 2009, 11:37:43 AM
I was wondering, is it safe to take my 997 and plug it into my 788 cables, i
know the interlink choke cable is the same, are the power cables and the
transducer cables the same(XNT-9-20-T ,i think?).its the trans that comes
standard with the 788. I was thinking about setting it up, so i could swap them,
readily, to learn how to drop-shot on the 997. Also, is there any advice on what
good settings to use why trying to drop-shot.

You should be able to drop shot with your 788. Its just a matter of tweaking your sensitivity so that you can see your bait. If you are statying in the same spot it should work. If you are constantle moving with your trolling motor then you would be better served by having your 997 on a mount that will let you turn it towards where you are fishing from. A lot of time when I fish with a jigging spoon, my partner is seeing it on my console unit because we move all over the schools of fish that we see.

Best thing to do is get a 1 ounce jigging spoon or larger if you can find it. Start dropping that below your unit on the front. You have to be in a place where yopur boat isnt moving much. Then tweak your sensitivity till you see it. Then try your drop shot rig
