798c SI Last good Update
« on: April 30, 2010, 11:21:48 PM »
What was the last non problem causing update the the 798 units? Mine is on 4.510 right now and I'd like to go to the newest one that does not cause the SHALLOW water problem. I'm moving this unit to be used on the trolling motor. I need the accurate shallow reading.

These are the ones available.
M798CI_4.780
M798CI.4_700
M798CI.4_620

BTW... is there a list of the upgrades changes to the units somewhere?  ;)

THANKS in advance!!!   ;D
Thanks

nmanley,

In the Downloads section each one of the updates tells what major changes were made.  Some will only say "Fixes Minor issues".  There is no official published list that tells us what all changes were made.  4.510 is actually the last one that states anything to do with 2d processing, although other updates may have had some minor changes to this that were not published.

If the update you are running now works just fine and you dont need or want the Down Imaging, I would leave it alone.

Also, the updates you posted below are for the 798ci units not the 798c.  I assume you have the 798c as your profile states.

Thanks Robert,
Yes I have the 798c and the 898c in hand now and the profile software versions listed are accurate.
Guess I would have seen the descriptions if I would have looked.  :o

Looks like there are a lot of changes made from the 4.700 and newer.
Can any one confirm that the 4.700 does not have the shallow depth issue verse the 4.780?

Thanks

When I got the 798 it had version 4.730 and I had only used it in deeper water since it was a winter pattern. I upgraded to the 4.780 when DI was released. Then when I started fishing shallower in late winter, I noticed the "problem". I loaded the 4.700 and still had the "problem" but not as severe. The version 4.730 was not listed in the available software.
I keep a record in my manuals of the software for each unit.
When the Switchfire upgrade was offered for my Matrix 97, I loaded that and got the "problem". I then reloaded the former software and it works fine.
My conclusion is part of the Switchfire program is the culprit.

No, I have the "ci" I just don't discriminate between the two. When I registered it is said 798ci but the software versions more than likely are the Same for both versions even if not labled the same.  ;)

Wanye, these days keeping a record of your software is a GOOD thing.  ;D
Thanks

They are close but they are not the same.  Sometimes one unit will get a new update and the other will not and the versions numbers are often different.

I too am going to revert back to a previous version. I currently have 4.730 which was a factory install from when I had it serviced. What I don't know is two things. ( Actually lot more than that.) Anyway, is 4.730 the equivalent of 4.700 or 4.780. I have tried the official fixes surface clutter 9 and deep salt water to no avail still have standard problems in water under 5'. I am starting to get very fustrated!

No the 4.730 software had some changes that the 4.700 software did not.  As far as I know these were only for an in-line test issue but could have contained more than that.  The 4.700 version would be the one that is older than the 4.730 that you have now.
