Strange 2D reading problem 1198c
« on: May 30, 2011, 10:55:06 PM »
Guy, I am having a Strange problem with my 1198c 2d/depth reading.  SI is working fine with HDSI.

When the boat speed is below 10 km, depth reading is  fine but not  in high speed.  Because of the console space limitation, my 1198 is very close to( almost on top of the Speedometer).  Once i increase the boat speed beyond 10km, the depth reading get mess up with random readings.

My questions is will the Speedometer cause  interference with the 1198 depth readings when it start show the boat speed?

I have installed HDSI +XNT-20-9  with the same result.

The new  xp-20-9 in hull transducer will cure & ready by Thursday

Philip

Phillip, is it only the depth that goes wrong or also the sonar.?
I dont think the speedmeter is causing this problem.
It could be a function of the transducer and the speed of the boat.
Let us know of the in place epoxy transducer.

Phillip, the starboard transducer appears a little close to the center line of the boat. Is is possible to move it more to the right?
You may be getting some bubbles where it is at speed.
We can look farther if this is not the issue..

When I use the Y spliter cable to connet the HDSI & XNT-20-9 transducer, the 2D & depth reading suppose to be feeding form the XNT-20-9 which is install at the port side, right?

I also tested with  only  XNT-20-9 transducer connected  and got  the same result. That's why I am installing the in hull transducer just in case is the bubble issue.

You might be better off with the thru the hull for depth.
As you have probably seen on this forum there are a lot of factors that influence the readings on the HB transduers.
You will also see a lot of thru the hull for planeing speeds.
It probably has a lot to do with the size of the transducers.
Every boat has its sweet spot.
Sorry you have to spend the extra bucks....
Dont know why all of this has to happen or it was not thought out in the beginning.
Keep us up dated on the tru the hull.
I have not checked the lowrance pages to see if they have the same issues....with their downscan....
