Ethernet 859 HD DI to 998 HD
« on: July 19, 2014, 11:19:47 PM »
Am I suppose to be able to use the DI from the 859 on the 998? I can view the 2d, GPS, and temp but not the di.

I would guess that you could view the DI on the 998 if you set the ducer in the 998 to the one that's supplying the info to the 859.

Just a guess but worth a try.

You would nee the latest S/W updates to get that to work - v7.020 for the 859 DI and 7.090 for the 998 - I share sonar data on my setup between my 899 & 998- the 859 will have to be your "master" unit for this to work I believe.
Greg may pop in and correct me if I am wrong....

According to this chart on the Humminbird web site:
http://www.humminbird.com/uploadedFiles/Content/Category/Support/FAQ/TransducerSupportGrid2014v1_0.pdf
You will only be able to share the 2D sonar.  If it were a 999 unit you would be able to share the Di sonar but not with a 998 model unit.

This sonar sharing stuff is pretty confusing, so I’m glad they finally put a chart up showing what can be shared…

I believe u can but u will not be able to use the SI on your 998 at the same time.  On your 998 goto the advanced sonar tab in the networking menu you should be able to choose the 859 DI transducer from the 859 or the SI transducer from the 998. Just cant do both at same time.

You will need the current software updates for both units.

The original plan is use my 998 HD on my buddy's boat that already has a 859 HD DI on it. I am just using my screen to see what he sees. The 998 will only have power and ethernet hooked up to it.

Am I understanding the chart correctly that a xx8 series unit cannot be setup as the "Primary" unit...??

Whereas a xx8 or xx9 series can be the "Secondary" unit ...??

Correct. It's my friend's boat and I'm just using mine on there to see what he's seeing. Plus he has the smaller ram mount.

So all the talk about the new software versions allowing sonar "cross-technology" sharing only applies IF both units are xx9 series units...??

If there's an xx8 series unit in the mix...it's no different than before ...meaning...only allows Ethernet sharing of sonar "like-technologies"...??

Yes and Yes.

Well then...I was just trying to make that chart more confusing in my head than it actually was....

Sorta....LOL
I can share between my 998 & 899 pretty much anyway I think I have tried!
These however are SI/SI units with the latest S/W ~ 7.09/7.02....
