I see is a black screen with a white line down the middle. On time the right side did appear to work momentarily. I see nothing in down imaging mode and my transducer appears to have a clear lien of sight, This is a major bummer, Any suggestions?

an see if it works? Is the unit bran new? Gary

Yes it is a brand new unit and my first time on the water. The right side appears to work but the left side doesn't. :'(

With unit on the screen you are talking about hit menu once. that will allow you to turn right or left or both sides on.

I have both sides turned on but only the right side works. I don't see any images at all unless I turn the sensitivity all the way up and then the right side works but the left side only shows a continuous 1" wide white/gray line. :'(

Post a few snapshots of your installation . Behind looking forward an side to side on the same elevation the
transducer is mounted.  Gary

This is the best I can do right now. I had the transducer mounted where the blue box is and have moved it to red box (I haven't tried out this location). I notice that none of my images look anything like the ones I see on this sight. If I get in 30-40 ft of water I have to turn the sensitivity to max and sometimes still get faint images in DI mode and in SI I basically see the bank contour on the right and nothing on the left.

Like I said I need to see an A on plane  rear an side image of your transducer mounting. At this time
I would rec comend studying Transducer installation pages ,on here and the BBC  HB site. Doug has a
lot of U-tube videos on installation and settings for you to look at. Good luck  Gary

Is that some kind of ladder on the left side of your transom?

You need to look from your transom to both sides of the transducer.
If you can see something in the way, so will the transducer.

Obvious things: but check that your transducer is clean.
It comes with some plastic on it.  Did you take that off?

When your boat is in the water, is the transducer sitting more
or less flat against the water?

Also try taking a Screen Snapshot of the Side Imaging View with the Si Range set to 20 feet.  It could be that your boat motor and the ladder are blocking enough of the left Si beam to cause the problem you are seeing.  So try trimming the motor up the next time you are out and see if there is any change while you are trimming the motor upwards.

If that produces no results than try and test your 798 unit on someone else’s boat that is running a Humminbird Si unit.  Different model does not matter; just connect up the power and transducer by hand to test it on the water.

It does sound like an element problem and not so much of a blockage problem....I would try another transducer on another boat.  Even with blockage he should get more of a scan picture than just the 1 inch he said he gets.
Another easy thing tpo do as a temporary trial is to tilt the transducer left side down a bit and see if the right side changes in any way and if the left side starts working better.
You coud do all of this manually with a friend or you holding the transducer to test the tilting..You dont have to mount it..
