i have heard from a source that the old hummingbird maps are better than the new ones and from what i could tell they were is there anyway to get those?
-
If you are speaking of the built-in maps that come installed on
the units, I don't think they can be replaced or modified.
I never heard of any option to send a unit in and have the
map changed/updated.
However, Greg would be the authority on it.
I'd wait to here from him.

You are correct ITG. The maps internal mapping data cannot be changed.
-
guess i just feel like hummingbird should be a little more in tune with lake eufaula because it is the home lake for them but the contour xd map has no info on it
-
I wish that we could too!
We buy the map data that we use from a mapping company. The data that they would sell us did not include any contour data for Lake Eufaula (Walter F. George Impoundment).
You live close to Eufaula?
-
yes sir i live in headland i usually try to fish eufaula about once a week
-
found out that the guy has the older navionics chip which is better for lake eufaula than the new one
-
Navionics chips have nothing to do with the built-in Humminbird maps.
It doesn't make sense that an older Navionics chip is better than
a new one.
Navionics is supposed to improve their maps each year.
I read somewhere where they make thousands of
corrections to their maps each year.
-
Navionics changed their provider for their basemaps a few years ago, and for many lakes, the result was less data.
I purchased an older (E-4) map a year or so ago and it has more info for several of my local lakes than the new chips. The new chips for these lakes lack marking of old road beds, channels, and many more features the older maps have.
It is hard to believe they would shoot themselves in the foot like that.....but they did.
-
do you know if the 2010 navionic is the old one because i found that one for sale?

I have a Navionics chip from years ago. Here is how it's labeled.

Maybe this will help you identify the one your looking for.
Mine is not for sale.

It's amazing and sad that new Navionics chips could have
less data than older versions.
For as much as they cost, you'd think they'd be as
up to date as humanly possible.
Based on this information, it would be
extremely difficult to know which year chip
to buy that had the most information.
You probably wouldn't be able to return one, no
matter where you bought it.

The E4 version of Navionics is the East 2008. I think that is the last year before they changed the basemaps. It has been a while since I researched this, so my memory is a little fuzzy.
The E4 Navionics is also a lot better for the Illinois river than the 2010 Lakemaster map chip I have. It is really a guessing game what is going to be the best map for you without being able to compare them side by side.
I am sure that some of the lakes which have been HD surveyed since 2008 have better contour line details than the old maps. I think there is a is a list on Navionics web page that shows what lakes are HD surveyed.
