Title: 597 ci HD DI images
Post by: gramps50 on July 19, 2012, 04:47:57 PM
I have had my 597 ci HD Di for a month or so now and have been reading and studying to learn how to use it, in fact I am new to sonar in general. My 597 is mounted on my trolling motor so I can see what is going on when I in the front of the boat. I also have an old Eagle Easy Fish (?) on the rear to use when under power.

From what I understand I think I am seeing fish int the following screen shots. Is this correct? For what ever reason no mater what I do I never get distinct arches, plus it seems pretty noisy to me and if I set the sensitivity down (its about 8) the noise goes away but so do many of the arches.

Gramps50, I see distinct arches in those screen snapshots.  I guess your expectations are higher than mine though.  Try some (or all) of these for better looking arches:
 - Either set the Chart Speed faster or make the boat go slower.  This will make the arches look wider.
 - Set the Beam Select menu to the 200/83kHz setting.  This will show sonar returns from both the narrower 200kHz sonar and the wider 83kHz sonar.  A wider sonar beam will show a wider arch from fish.
 - Set the SwitchFire menu to the “Max Mode” setting.  This will show all of the weaker sonar returns that get filtered out and will also helps show a wider arch.
 - Set the Upper and Lower Range menus to as small of a window as you can.  This will maximize the horizontal pixels of the display so that the arches will appear taller.

To get rid of the noise try turning off your other sonar units and/or turn on and up the Noise Filter menu.
