998c HD SI and a 859ci HD DI
« on: October 14, 2014, 01:09:11 PM »
I have a 998c HD SI mounted now and was thinking about adding a 859ci HD DI for another screen that would be mainly used for looking at the map and the marked fishing points. My question is I assume you would just mount both transducers on the transom, one on either side.

The goal is to be able to watch the map on one or DI while the other is doing something else.

hgv,
I think that you will have some problems with sonar-to-sonar interference between these two units if they are both running their sonar at the same time as they share a few different frequencies.  You can turn the Sonar off on the one you are using for mapping (859ci HD DI) and turn it back on when you need it.

If you mount both transducers on the transom of the boat be aware that the DI transducer will block some of the sonar to that side of the Si transducer.  Mount them as far apart as possible to decrease the amount of blockage or figure out how to mount one fore/aft of the other one.

Does humminbird make a device that you could use for maps only. I guess I will just mount the other transducer on the trolling motor if I add the other device

No, we do not make a Chartplotter only type unit, though you can turn the sonar off in many of our sonar-GPS units so it would act like a Chartplotter only unit.

Can't you just buy the networking cable and run both units off the same transducer?
