What is the best charting data package for 1199?
« on: February 24, 2015, 11:35:03 AM »
I would like some opinions on charting data for my new 1199.  I think have have the Navionics Hotmaps Premium that I bought last year for my 998.  It works well and I like it.  I have no experience with Lakemaster.  However, I fish Missouri and Texas and Navionics is the only one that includes both of these areas on one chip.  I am considering purchasing the Navionics Hotmaps Platinum.  My son will inherit the 998 with the boat that it is on.  That is why I am purchasing a new card.

I love the ability to use the gps map when I am traveling around the lake.  It helps me zone in on exactly what I am looking for.  Once at location I can use side scan or down imaging to pinpoint what areas I want to fish.  I do not think I will use overlays too much or 3-D data.  I have no experience with them.  I am a somewhat novice user so any advice would be appreciated.  If there are other worlds and tools that I need to look into with my unit, please advise.  I mainly target bass, walleye and crappie in Missouri and Texas.

Which lakes in Missouri and Texas walley65?  I ask because instead of buying two LakeMaster mapping cards, you may be able to get the lakes you need, along with the LakeMaster card functionality, by making use of the new Humminbird ChartSelect downloadable maps.  Basically you provide the SD card, you encrypt it on your Humminbird unit, you buy then download and install only the maps you want to the memory card.  These are the same maps that are on the current versions of the regional LakeMaster mapping cards.  So you could get the lakes from Missouri and Texas that you want without paying for additional lake maps that you won’t be using.

Unless you want/need the additional 3D mapping, aerial pictures and all that the Navionics Platinum mapping cards have, I would stay with the Navionics Premium mapping card.

With the lakes west of Ft Worth being 14 feet down or more, I really like the LakeMaster Card for the main reason you can set the lake to its real level, which to me gives a much better picture of where not to boat. I had a friend who recently went to Lake Graham and ran his boat aground out in the middle of the lake. I had just got my unit so I loaded my card at the house and looked at that lake, and saw exactly where is ran aground. I thought that was neat.

The mapping on the Platinum and the Premium are the same ...

Like Greg mentioned ...the Platinum also offers satellite imagery, 3d view and photos of marinas you will never visit ...
