Title: ? on terrova w US2 and HDSI transducer
Post by: jimmythegreek on March 06, 2013, 12:26:51 PM
Im curious if this can be done........I have 2 boats now and will be switching my 998 back and forth and getting another one or an 1100 series in the next week or so.  On my older boat I have a 596HD mounted on the bow thru the US2 and the 998 next to it w the HDSI on the transom, and I like it cause I can use the whole screen for staying on waypoints/navigating and the 596 full screen for sonar, but sucks that the HDSI is on the transom instead of up front.   What I wanna kno is can I run a reg 500 series thru the US2 on my terrova and get a HDSI SI ducer on the trolling motor and set the 998 to just do The DI and SI without sending 83/200 sonar into the water so I have the 2 units not interfering with eachother?  I know u can set what ducer u use in the options but not sure if you can turn off 2d sonar only and use the rest...........TIA

Installing the HDSi transducer on the trolling motor will make it more likely that you will get sonar interference because you cannot turn off the 200kHz 2D sonar on the 998c Si unit.  Although you may not have it showing (or have the 83kHz set to only be displayed), the unit will still be transmitting and receiving on the 200kHz frequency.  It uses this sonar to determine water depth which is needed for the Si sonar.  You may be able to get away with it by turning on and up the Noise Filter menus in the units but there are no guarantees either way that it will or will not work.

thanks greg, thats what I thought.  Its a good setup I have now w the 2 units side by side, and alot cheaper than a 1198.  I may just set the new boat up the same way or temporarily try it w both ducers on the TM
