Si and Di on bow unit
« on: July 18, 2011, 01:40:53 PM »
Is anyone successfully using a SI/DI unit on the bow? Does it use the stern transducer for the DI? Is there a seperate ducer for the sonar on the bow? Orderring units for a new Bass boat and i'm getting conflicting info on wherther or not to put an 898SI/DI on the bow and console. Some are telling me it is useless on the bow and I should go 858 on front. Never had a Hummingbird or a SI/Di unit so I need some help with good advice on this. Thanks.

A Si unit can be used on the bow but unless you are moving the boat (and therefore the transducer) in the same manner as you would a transom mounted transducer; the results will differ.  Try searching this and other web sites for information on bow or trolling motor mounted Si units.

Most who use an Si unit on the bow use a trolling motor mounted transducer, but you could opt to use a transom mounted transducer if you want to.
