Model:
ALL SI Models
Suggested Upgrade:
Ability to create maps of uncharted lakes etc
Explanation:
There are lots of smaller lakes (especially in canada) that navionics doesn't have on there chips and would be sweet if data could be saved from the humminbird onto the cards so create our own maps... should be fairly easy to do with SI....

Good idea Patty..
also the 83/200 data could be used to create contours.
I am not sure of all the capability of several of the mapping programs available on the forum.
but possibly they might help also..

I asked Humminbird if there was anysoftware available to do this and was told no... I believe you can do it with lowrance and dr.depth but humminbird isn't supported... never thought about the 83/200 but it would be wicked to combine both and get extremly detailed data...

Hopefully HB will read and listen to the users as we are the ones who really know what is needed..
You are right in that other vendors do offer the capability..

I recently bought a 798 cxi hd si and was realy looking forward to all it could be. I bought it at what I thought was a decent price in Canada (1100ish). It was on sale so I bought it on the spot so to speak.  Now that I have been researching the mapping options for my area, I am quite sure I am going to return it.
Navionics is my only option for Saskatchewan. Upon investigation of their coverage, They only cover 1 of the 5 major (and I mean major) lakes I fish. I am not talking little ponds but huge walleye, pike, trout fisheries.  This would be like no map in the US for Devils Lake.

The Gps function on this is no better than my $80.00 garmin etrex that bread crumbs.

I am extremely frustrated and I just bought this unit. I can't imagine how the thousands of people that bought these types of units a couple years ago must feel.

The other thing that completly boggles my mind is that HB has not stepped up to the plate in the least.

I sent them an email expalining my disapointment and they didn't even read my entire email. They just told me to go buy a Navionics card.

To me, I just bought a computer that I can't load a program on and Humminbirds position is "Sucks to be You"! What is the point of HB locking these units down so hard. Unless of course they bought a mapping company like say Lakemaster and are in bed with Navionics (Don't get me started on them), who have absolutely no interest in anything outside the US.

Unless HB has a viable option here for loading user/custom maps that are easily loaded without a computer programming engineering degree, I am going take mine back and get a Lowrance.  I talked 3 other people into buying these units. I will be telling them to do the same and doing everything in my power to ensure no one else buys one of these HB units.

It's not like these contour maps aren't out there.

I hope your listening HB.

With the latest version of DrDepth, you can make your own maps for Humminbird Units.

I have 3 loaded in my 798

So are these based on recorded data or did you draw the contours and upload .HT?

The contours are made with my own data collected by DrDepth software, which render the .HT file ready to upload in the unit.

Patty, yes it will produce data for use on your HB.

If you do, then let us know your results and how it helps you,

This may in the future help others..
