Title: SI and DI is blank
Post by: coondog on July 25, 2011, 08:13:53 AM
What would cause the SI and DI to be blank on the screen? The circular and regular sonar is working fine and so is the GPS, but the SI and DI screens are just dark screens with no readings. It was working fine Friday and went back out on Sunday and it is not working.

Bad Si elements or a broken connection to the elements in the Side Imaging transducer.  Broken/cut/pinched Si transducer cable or maybe something in the unit itself.  Best way to know whether the problem is in the transducer or the unit is to test your Si unit on someone else's boat that has a Humminbird Si unit (any model, just plug in the transducer and power to test it).

I thought I had found the problem. My transducer cable was cut where it goes into the transducer. I contacted Humminbird and they sent me a new transducer with cable and bracket. I hooked everything up and nothing. The SI and DI screens show nothing and the regular sonar screens are blank except for the very top and it has a blue line that runs across the top of screen. The GPS also is saying no position fix. Is there anything I might have done wrong installing the transducer or is it the unit itself? Humminbird is not open today being it is Labor Day so I could not contact them. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Depending on the lewngth of the cable from the unit to the cut could have damaged the transmitters in the unit.
this can happen when you add entender cables and dont have a transducer connect at power on time..
Hopefully HB can get with you Tuesday.
And as Greg said, a faster way to determine the problem is to swap components with a friend.
Hopefully the transmitters did not give out...
