With much fanfare of course, LM announced it's "vaporware" Autochart at iCast in the summer. The stated release was "fall 2013". That seemed ambiguous at the time, but OK, should make a great Christmas present and be worth the wait.
Since "fall" can mean different things to different people, I researched and learned that fall starts on September 22nd and ends on December 20th. So by any definition, Lakemaster missed the mark.
Luckily a guy in my fishing club uses Lowrance's version of the same product and has been kind enough to share images of his maps with the other members. I suppose the pressure to get its equivalent product launched led to the overly optimistic release date by LM. Missing Christmas is a disappointment and I have to believe represents a huge internal miss. LM could have presold at a discounted rate to capture the Christmas dollar, or perhaps offered gift cards. On the flipside if you are already commited so to speak with HB hardware, then what other choice exists but to wait?

since it was a working product when the bought it, they must be taking extra time to screw it up

I'm new to this and not familiar with the history, but it is curious that a product that is demoed in July (to the point above, working) cannot be finalized for shipment a few months later. Or, if so far from being ready, that product management would know that reality and give a realistic launch date.

They have changed it to "coming in the spring 2014" :)
