Shoot Through Mounting Location / Ranger 620VS
« on: September 16, 2018, 11:45:37 AM »
Ok, I have been using the search function for the last 3 hours and cannot find the information I am looking for (and I have tried to use the embedded BBC  links that folks have posted, but most of those are dead links).  I have a 2002 Ranger 620VS.  I have a Helix 9 that I want to Y cable its transducer with a shoot through 2D puck style transducer.

I am looking for a picture/testimonial of where a successful mounting location is for the shoot through transducer.  I understand the whole "test installation" philosophy.  However, for those folks that own these boats there is not an easy access to the bilge area.  It is a job and a half to move pumps, hoses, oil tank, etc. (unless you have Go-Go Gadget arms).

I would like to mount it on the bow facing side of the livewell pumps, but I am not sure if this will be in the water enough while on plane to get depth readings while at speed.

I would consider transom mounting the 2D transducer, but would need to know a good location for that and any Pros/Cons.

Any practical experience and application would be appreciated (pictures are also very helpful).

Yep, I have read through that thread several times.  Unfortunately, it doesn't address my specific hull type.  Having to remove the oil tank every time to test fit is not ideal.  I am hoping someone has completed this install and can give the limiting factors involved.

2D Transducer Mounting Location / Ranger 620VS
« Reply #3 on: September 27, 2018, 07:19:45 PM »
Where can I mount a 2D transducer on a Ranger 620VS.  I want to mount the SI transducer underneath the step and mount the 2D transducer next to drain plug.  Will the location of the 2D transducer impact the beam returns of the SI?

If the 2d xducer is to the side of the SI xducer it can physically block part of the SI beam  ...

Some stepped hulls allow the the 2d xducer to be on the lowest step with the SI xducer higher on a different step (or on a jackplate)  ...Which situates the 2d xducer forward of the imaging xducer SI beams  ...

Yessir, this how my setup is.  I have a Ranger 620 and it has the step transom.  So, with the 2D transducer 6 inches forward of the SI (which is mounted to underside of step), will that impede with SI beam?  I understand the beam is 180 degrees on the SI to the sides.  However, I am not clear on how big the beam is to the front and rear of SI transducer.

You should be fine  ... The side image beam thickness "front to back" is less than the length of the SI xducer housing  ... (and doesn't get much thicker "front to back" as it travels away from the xducer)
