Title: Helix Screen Images
Post by: 95Ranger on November 07, 2015, 09:14:39 PM
I am trying to decide between the Humminbird 899 SI, 999 SI, Helix 9 SI, or Helix 10 SI units.  I was leaning toward a Helix 9 SI because its a newer model, but now I am confused after I made a comparison of the Helix 7 SI with an 899 SI at Bass Pro shops. Both of these units have exactly the same screen size and same pixel count. The units were next to each other so it was easy to compare the image quality in the Full SI view in Demo mode. Both units had the Sharpness turned OFF and both used the AMBER 1 color selection. The 899 had Sensitivity and Contrast both set to 10. I spent at least 30 minutes trying to find a combination of Sensitivity and Contrast on the Helix 7 that would give an image as good as the 899. I could not get the same quality image on the Helix 7 no matter what settings were used. The Helix 7 image is somewhat brighter, but not near as sharp and clean as the 899. It looks blurred and the color blend is not smooth like it is on the 899. The store clerk watched me do this and also agreed with me that the display is much better on the 899. Are there other adjustments that can be made to improve the image on the Helix models? I only adjusted the Sensitivity and Contrast. The Helix 9 and 10 are not in the stores yet but I am wondering if their image quality will be similar to the Helix 7 or more like the 899?  Time is running out on the availability of 899's and 999's so I need to decide very soon. Any help or recommendations on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Did your verify the Chart Speed on each unit was set to optimum scroll speed ...and not "stretching" or "squashing" the displayed echoed targets ...??

I would doubt the same defined Chart Speed setting is optimum for both the x99 series and HELIX series ...

Thanks for the good suggestion. I did not verify the chart speed, but I will check it again and see if that will help.
