Decided on 898...now should I wait?
« on: December 07, 2010, 11:21:03 AM »
OK so is there a big difference between a 2010 and a 2011 898c SI?  I have looked at the 2011 catalog but can't find the 2010 one so anyone know the differences?  Thanks and if there is somewhere I should look I would appreciate it if you could direct me!  Thanks!

Rick,

As far as I remember there's no difference in 2010 and 2011 models concerning the 898s. Maybe the 2010s might have an older software version if there has been a software update already.
From the hardware there should be NO difference (perhaps they smell newer  :)).

Thanks again Harry...know where the best (cheapest) place to buy one is?  I looked at the Humminbird site and it didn't say anything about down imaging for this years product but made a big deal out of it in the new catalog.  Just wondering???? :o

Rick, the Down Imaging feature was a software release on Jan, 12, 2010 which was after the web site specs were posted. Units mfg after that date had the DI already installed. If you get an earlier mfg model without DI, it is just a simple, free, install of the latest software to get it. The lastest software release in June fixed a shallow water digital reading issue and has the DI included.
Basically you can have an up-to-date model no matter when it was mfg.

Anytime Rick,

I never heard about this shop until Foster78 posted that he ordered a transducer for his 987.

Some of the 1197s seem very cheap to me. I only they would be international models  and  the guys would ship international........:(, Dang!!!

Regards / Harry

Edit: Just type "Humminbird SI" into the search box and you'll find different offers.

Just to confirm here:
There are no differences between the 898’s built in 2010 and those we are building for 2011 except what can be updated by software (no official release of new software yet since June of 2010) and of course the smell as Harry indicated!
