« on: November 03, 2012, 08:34:57 PM »
Does anybody know of a detailed chip, that i can put in my HB 898csi to get true detailed structure, stumps, old tram roads ,structure that was in lake since day one. Please help! I bought Navionics hot maps premium. Sent it back because did not work.It did not give the detail of bottom structure they said it would.

There are three levels of Navionics maps, Platinum, Premium and Hotmaps.  I believe the Platinum and Premium are basically the same with 3D added for Platinum.  Hi Def lakes have the best detail.

I have a Navionics Platinum and LakeMaster chips for my units and they are pretty much the same.  I do not believe what you are looking for exists today.  The charts depending on the lakes are almost as good as the paper charts.  I say almost because my paper charts have some detail on them that the electronic charts do not, so I keep a paper chart with me for more information.

A good part of the detail is about learning how to read the charts, the Pros are very efficient at it, learning to read the maps takes time and patients.

Sorry to say that is as good as it gets.

I don't understand why you can put the same chip in a lowrance unit and it works great.you put the same chip in a hummingbird and it doesn't get half the detail.  I have an eagle depth finder and the hot maps works great.  I though the purpose of having a good  chip was to leave all your maps home.  I guess with a hummingbird you have to bring all your maps.  Don't get me wrong.   I love my hummingbird.  I just don't understand why they don't have better detail on structure.  I don't understand why the unit doesn't read the chip like a lowrance.  I sent the unit back to hummingbird, with the premium chip in the unit ,hoping they could see what it was doing or not doing.  They put a new card reader in it.  It,s doing the same thing, not much detail.  I thought somebody might know of a chip that would give me a little better deail.

Maybe I do not understand what you are looking for.  I would expect both Humminbird and Lowrance to both have the same quality of Navionics' charts.

My contours are down to 1 ft increments and it shows some roads, trees, etc. but still misses stuff when comparing to paper charts.

Can you take a picture of the difference between the 2 systems?
