Favorite SI software?
« on: October 12, 2016, 01:52:34 PM »
I realize that HB tries to balance software between best of all areas. Curious which software version you felt gave you the best SI images?
I was out again yesterday playing around with TD location on transom. I have 2 different software versions in each 999 achieved different results is why I'm asking. I'll post some pics later but wanted to pick some brains before then. Thanks

One of my 999's has older software and one is current. The older is showing retaining wall and brush pile better but TD is mounted in center of boat. I think the reason I was missing retaining wall is partially to blame on boat leaning to starboard slightly, I'm solo.
I had a passenger the other day and could see retaining wall better that day with newer software and TD mounted to outside of transom. Anyways here's the pics. KVD has older, 999 has newer.
Last 2 are with passenger.

I have that problem in my boat to some degree.... depending on whether there is a passenger and whether I have the kicker motor on the boat.
It also looks like the scroll speeed may be higher on the KVD .... That will stretch the image a little more.  The KVD is definitely showing the brush better.
Have you tried changing locations of the units to see if the difference might be the transducer / mounting location or the unit?

Scroll speeds the same. Sensitivity I had to turn down on KVD because it seemed hotter then 999. Yep switched TD's between 2 units, location of clamped 2D and HDSI mounted TD's to different locations of transom, etc. Been trying different locations and settings to find best possible placement. I've been scanning the same place over and over to keep variables to a minimum. The homeowners are probably wondering what this guy is doing.
Overall the KVD seems to produce the best images with both  HDSI TD's.  I'm also trying to use their docks and boat lifts as targets. You can see the horizontal bars on lift but not vertical bars which I don't understand. I'm going to try and get out again this week.  I'd like to take a actual photo because they are going to lower lake level here soon and may actually be able to see objects under water.

I think some of those software releases affected the scroll speed.....I was just going by the way the images appear.  Maybe try bumping up the scroll speed on the 999 a couple of notches and see if it makes any difference.

The part of this post about the change in passenger load affecting the image quality reminded me of the device I created to compensate for this situation in my boat.

Most time I'm alone, sometimes one or two passengers. In a small boat like mine it, it changes whether the transducer is level or not, which affects image quality.

In the link below, scroll about half way down for description. After everyone is in and seated, I put a level on the bar, adjust as needed, and am good to go. Takes less than a minute.

Thanks Mike your where I stole the idea from with TD mounted on board but chose to use C-clamp to hold in place. I preset the board and TD in garage and then put a black line with Sharpie on back side to line up with top of transom so I had a reference when I got on water.
Seeing the retaining wall that day was by accident. The partner wanted to pull crankbaits along shoreline on our way up to fishing spot. When I happen to go by there that wall it really stood out so I snapped a couple shots and turned around a got a few more. The partner didn't understand what I was doing so I had to do some teaching of SI, DI, and 2D that day, he'd never seen that stuff before in person.
