800khz whites out screen
« on: June 08, 2015, 09:38:26 AM »
OK so I think that I might have a problem with my 1199 (w/7.65 firmware).

When i switch frequency's from 455 to 800khz, my screen (right SI) goes way out of wack, like when you crank the sharpness all the way up.  455 khz everything looks good, switch to 800, and cant distinguish a thing.

I just noticed this this weekend.

My settings

Lake depth ~ 15-feet
Boat speed = 3-5 mph
Chart speed = 4
Sensitivity = 12
Contrast = 12
Sharpness = off
SI Range = 65-ft
Color = Amber-1

Is this a TD issue or is my 1199 on the fritz.

I will try to go out this afternoon and grab a few screen shots.....didnt have my phone or extra SD card with me yesterday.

Thanks for your responses

There is a hardware problem with some of the 1199's associated with the 800Khz, and can cause the symptoms you describe.

Give Humminbird customer service a call ..... have your serial # handy when you call them.

It will do that when you switch but if you let it run you will see the top of the screen have a better brightness as it scrolls down. If you are still too bright you should be able to turn down the sensitivity and get a good picture. You will find changing conditions need adjustment even when you leave it on either frequency. If it will not adjust then there may be an issue. Bob

What bobcoy is telling you is correct if your unit doesn't need the fix ..... if it does need the fix, no amount of adjusting will help it.

Thanks guys,

I called customer service and they want me to send it in.  After searching this site this appears to be a known issue.  Since I bought this unit and registered it, I have received no less than 1/2 dozen emails from humminbird to update the firmware in this unit....no problem.  Boat sat in my garage all winter.  Im 7-days from going on a week long trip to Canada when I figured this out.  Fortunately I figured this out when I did.  1-year warranty is up at the end of the week.

Why wouldn't HB contact registered customers about known issues.  Would of been nice to send the unit in over the winter.

Frustrated!

You needed to sign up for Humminbird Select program ..... You get 2 years warranty on the 1199.....I don't know if you can still sign up for it now or not ....That would be worth another call to them to find out.

When you get it back, you may still have the issue bobcoy described .... just wait for the screen to scroll one full screen and after switching to 800 Khz, then adjust as needed
