I will try and make the short and clear.
1.)  Last week I took out my new HELIX 5 SI and got some nice clear readings until I hit a log.  It popped off the transducer, but damaged the mounting bracket.

2.)  I replaced the mounting bracket and took it out yesterday.  I am unhappy with the readings, as they are unclear and cluttered.

3.)  My transducer was creating a rooster tail yesterday that I did not notice last week. (I have the rooster tail plug ready to go if needed)

4.)  I looked at m transducer today, and when I re-mounted it, it was not flush with the bottom of the boat.  It was actually mounted below the boat.  I have since adjusted it and made it flush with the bottom of the boat.

See images attached of the readings.  I named them by the speed I was going when I created the snapshot.  (It wouldnt even read at full speed)

Here are my questions......
1.)  Did the transducer being mounted below the bottom of the boat create all of this?

2.)  Do you think my transducer is damaged from hitting the log?

Thank you in advance.

The first thing I would try would be lowering the sensitivity. Your getting a triple echo in 7'.

Thanks Mike.  Will adjust.  Learning as I go!

Coy, Could you post some actual Screen Snapshots from the HELIX 5 unit itself?  I don’t use HummViewer so I don’t know how normal or abnormal those images are.

In general though, if you had clear readings before the log hit the transducer and you don’t now (after replacing and remounting transducer as before), chances are that the transducer is damaged.

Greg,
Attached are some screenshots taken from Helix unit.  Thanks  (Ignore the first one, I think that is a factory default image or something.)

More snapshots from my Helix unit.   Sorry to overload the thread with pictures, just want to supply you guys with the most information to give me your best opinion.

Adjusting the sensitivity isn't going to correct this. I suspect Greg will say your transducer likely needs replaced. Wait for official word.

That's really an odd problem for a transducer ..... the 2D as well as both side of the Si are affected.... but the simplest answer is usually correct.....Maybe a ground or common connection was damaged?

Do you know anyone who has one that you could connect your unit to? ..... or the other way around.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

Mike I think you are right in that he will need to replace the transducer but agree with Bob B that he should try cross-testing with another Humminbird SI user first.  How about it Coy; can you find someone else with a Humminbird Si model unit (any SI model will work) and swap units with them to see if the problem is with the Si transducer on your boat?

I dont know anyone with an SD unit.   I am going to take it out one more time.   If I get the same readings I will reach the transducer.   Thank you guys and I will keep you updated.
