SI Transducers?
« on: September 15, 2014, 11:30:54 AM »
Are the XHS 9 HDSI 180T, and the XTM 9 HDSI 180T transducers the same except for the mounts?

Thanks, Greg.  One other question -- Is there a transducer that will give the 898cSI "true" down imaging?  If so, how would that work and still be able to keep the SI?

This is "True down imaging" in the sense that the HB SI unit is utilizing a "down pointing" piezo in the dedicated DI xducer ...

http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=5388.0

But the DI view is still being processed by the same algorithms that process the SI unit's "DI from SI" technology...

Is it "True Down Imaging"...sort of...

Are the DI images as good as a Dedicated DI xducer on a dedicated DI unit...nope...

Are the DI images better than the SI unit's "DI from SI" technology ...absolutely...

No,  Greg and Rickie, kind of confused.  Looking to get the best DI that I can out of the 898 without losing SI.

The XNT 9 DI T and the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T both are "Dedicated True DownImaging" xducers because each have a "downward pointing" piezo...(the stock XHS 9 HDSI 180 T xducer that comes with the SI units does not have a "downward pointing" piezo)..

Either can be used on the HB SI units for somewhat better DI images on the SI unit...
http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/FAQ/DIxducerSIunit/

There are 2 ways either of the DI xducers can be setup to be used with the HB SI unit...

1. Replace the stock HDSI xducer with either of the DI xducers ... (This setup eliminates the possibilty of the SI feature of the SI unit)...

2. Add either of the DI xducers to the existing SI setup along with the HB TS3 switch... (This setup allows choosing to use the HDSI for SI ... OR using the dedicated DI xducer for better DI views)...

Thanks Rickie .... got it now!  Sorry to be so dense.
One more question -  In your opinion, do you gain enough difference in the DI to be worth the trouble, or would you stay with the stock HDSI transducer?

Thanks so much for your help.

Here's 2 screenshots of the very same brushpile...

Scanned with "DI from SI" stock XHS 9 HDSI 180 T xducer on my 1197...

Scanned with "Dedicated DI" XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T xducer on my 1197...

I think the images say ...

"Yes it's worth the cost of a DI xducer and the HB TS3 switch"

If you do decide to utilize this setup ... I would suggest using the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T instead of the XNT 9 DI T...

*Same "down pointing" DI piezo in each...

*200kHz/83kHz  2d in the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ...(both 2d frequencies work in the SI unit)...
*200kHz/455kHz 2d in the XNT 9 DI T ...(only the 200kHz 2d frequency works in the SI unit)...

The only caveat is the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T is a trolling motor type puck housing ...

You would have to make a custom bracket to use the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T on a transom mount scenario...

OK Rickie, got it now!  Just have to make a few decisions.  Will post later what I did and how it turned out.  Thanks for all of your knowledge and assistance.

I'll just add this to your decision making a little more complicated or perhaps not: that XTM-9-WIDE-DI-20T transducer may have been designed for a trolling motor but it can also be epoxied to the inside of a boat hull and work well.  The temperature will be from the inside of the hull but you can ignore the temp when using it.
