How to modify your unit's Start Up Screen via SD-card

(1/1)

Jolly Roger:
Hi all,

have you ever wondered about it or got tired of your unit's start up screen?
Here's how you can modify it:

What you need:

SD card
SD card reader
PC / Laptop

1. Place the SD card in the SD card slot of your unit
2. Start up your unit and let it go through the start up sequence.
3. Turn your unit off
4. Remove the SD card from your unit
5. Get the SD card in your SD card reader
6. Call up your SD card on your PC and open it
You'll see different folders and a "Profile" file when the SD card is opened

Details
7. Choose the "Profile" file
The last four lines (each starting with "P") are the lines which are responsible for the text shown in the start up screen and they should be empty. If there's something written you can overwrite each line with max. 20 letters incl. spacers, but you have to leave the "P1;" "P2;" "P3," "P4;" at the beginning of the lines.

Details
8. Type in your desired text, use the tabulator key to jump to the next line.
9. Close the editor and check "save" to save your text on the SD card
10. Remove the SD card from your SD card reader using the "Safe removal" feature
11. Place the SD card in your unit and start it up. The SD card's information will be read during the loading sequence.
12. Shut down your unit and restart it without the SD card. Now your new start up screen should be visible.

You can also type in your name and address telephone number or whatever you might like to see if you're going out on the water with your Bird.

Good luck / Harry

Jolly Roger:
Thanks for the flowers guys.
I accidentally stumbled over this as I was watching some old recordings with the new colors. I recently had my start up screen modified with HumminbirdPC. Bob brought me to the idea as he mentioned it in the other forum.

When I put my SD-card in the reader I checked the "Profile" file to see what's in there, I saw that my address showed up in the last four lines like I had it uploaded to the unit with HumminbirdPC. So I played around with the lines and found out how one can get the start up screen pimped via SD card.
Wish one could get a warning advice to the screen like we discussed in the other thread about the HB stickers  ;D.

Regards / Harry
